History

Rose quartz is another variation of quartz. It was a symbol of the covenant and mentioned in many myths in ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. According to Greek mythology, Cupid, the god of love, would give the gift of love to humans using a rose quartz stone. Greek mythology also says that the color comes from the blood shed when the goddess Aphrodite was attempting to save the god Adonis from Ares’ attack. While trying to save Adonis, Aphrodite was pricked by a briar bush, and her blood stained a white quartz stone a pink color. Zeus returned Adonis to Aphrodite every six months, resulting in rose quartz becoming the symbol of everlasting love.

Archeologists have discovered rose quartz stones in Egyptian tombs, linking the stone to beauty and art as well. Facial masks made of this stone have been discovered in Egyptian tombs. It is said that ancient Egyptians believed that rose quartz slowed any signs of aging.
